[THIN] Re: XP SP3 breaking RDP?

Okay, so I'm a little late on this response but here's a simple registry change that has worked for me.  Check out http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/error-remote-desktop-web-connection-activex-control-could-not-be-installed-after-installing-windows-xp-sp3/.

Nick,

See KB 875352
Try  to change the boot.ini file to /noexecute=Always off on the windows XP workstations.
DEP always is a pain, and is hard to manage, if all other security aspects are in place (GPO, NTFS permissions, firewall, antivirus
and proper patch management ) you could skip this way of preventing to run arbitrary code. True iDEP has a preventive character. DEP is not a big hit but some people/companies might actually be using it, its not common to my knowledge that administrators manage this possibility)

Guys,
We've started having users download SP3 for XP. Once installed, when you run RDP it throws an error  saying Data Execution Prevention is preventing it running. Also breaks the RDP ActiveX.

Only solution we currently have is to uninstall – anyone got anything better?

Wishing you a wonderful day!
