[THIN] Re: Download Pick: PowerGui - A graphical user interface and script editor for PowerShell.

Hi Jim,

Thank you.

With our stealth marketing we need all the help we can get.

And if anyone hasn't seen it our free Spotlight on Windows (www.quest.com/spotlight-on-windows), is well worth the registration. And it's fun to point out that it was developed in Australia :-).

Actually, we've got it all, password manager, Foglight which is one of the best enterprise monitoring products around, and of course a really good terminal services/VDI/DDI product.

Wouldn't it be nice if Citrix had integrated VDI/DDI support with a single management console, a real UPD (network printers too, NO more printing problems), user profile management that works, user environment management and application restrictions, and application publishing and shadowing for VDI/DDI.

regards,

Rick

Hello All,
Here is a great free utility to get you started learning and using Windows Powershell.  The utility is called PowerGui and it is an extensible graphical administrative console and IDE for managing systems based on Windows PowerShell.

What is really cool is that PowerGui has built a pretty large following and community and already there are many contributions of what they call PowerPacks that are prebuilt consoles for things like Active Directory, Terminal Services, Hyper-V and yes even Citrix!

So here are a few links to get you started:
You can download PowerGUI from here:
http://powergui.org/downloads

Once you download and install PowerGui you can download and add the community created PowerPacks
There is a Terminal Services PowerPack you can get from here:
http://powergui.org/entry.jspa?externalID=2071&categoryID=296
This PowerPack allows basic administration of Termial Servers (view settings, permissions, enable/disable connections), RDP sessions (message, connect to, disconnect) and RDP connections (launch, edit settings).

There is one for the Citrix Console available at this link:
http://www.powergui.org/entry!default.jspa?categoryID=296&externalID=2033
This is a pretty cool thing, you can logoff specific users, view printer, hotfixes, enable or disable apps and more. It would be excellent start to create a console for your help desk.

And one for Hyper-V here!
http://powergui.org/entry.jspa?externalID=2142&categoryID=290

There is quite a library of Powerpacks in categories such as Active Directory, Exchange, Windows Server, Reporting and more!
You can search through them here:
http://www.powergui.org/kbcategory.jspa?categoryID=21

What is really cool is once you load the power packs there is a tab that lets you see what the powershell script is doing in the background.

Enjoy!

[THIN] Altiris Deployment server 6.9 Service Pack 1

For those of you who use Altiris Deployement server I just wanted to point out that there is an update to 6.9 (Service Pack 1) which now allows you to remote control Vista workstations without RDP.  Nice.  Remote control is also markedly faster and uses less CPU then previous versions so it is definitely worth taking the time to do the update.

I can save the .efx localy, open the viewer directly, then open the .efx file from within the viewer, no problems.  Anyone have experience with getting this working?  Version is 4.4.

Does anyone know is it true that you cannot use a Terminal Service CAL on a Vista Home OS?

Thanks,

George

[THIN] eFax Messenger

Trying to get eFax Messenger working on 2008 TS.  Installed without a hatch  in install mode.  Logged in as an admin and I have a test .efx attachment in Outlook 2007.  When I double-click on the .efx files, it wants to locate msgsplus.exe and install/re-install components, then it eventually opens the viewer.  It does this every time I double-click on a .efx attachment.

I can save the .efx localy, open the viewer directly, then open the .efx file from within the viewer, no problems.  Anyone have experience with getting this working?  Version is 4.4.

[THIN] Re: HRP03 for CTX PS 4.5

I had to upgrade my license server also. No issues after upgrading license server. Wish there had been better

documentation or warning from Citrix that upgrading the license server was needed after upgrading to Hotfix 3.

I've got a second remote farm running 4.0 - no reported problems so far (upgraded about 4 weeks ago)

[THIN] Re: TSCAL on Vista Home

Actually we have a Doctor that is running Vista Home and connecting to a 2000 TS machine here for an OB application.  They get a temporary license and when that runs out they are out of luck.  I'm trying to get it to take one of our normal licenses.

[THIN] Re: Word 2007 Spell Check: Solved

It was still pointing to some Word 2003 files, specifically the .lex. Solution (And fortunately only a dozen users on this server):

Go to \HKU\userid\software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\

And rename 1.0 to 1.0old or similar.

The actual problem I think was \HKU\userid\software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0\override\en-US where the DLL and LEX key point to non-existent files.

Thanks for thoughts though.

Nick

i think the dictionaries are stored in the user's profile under application data.  Filemon from sysinternals should reveal it though.

Guys,

We migrated a server (W2K3, no Citrix) to Office 2007 a while back. Other than needing to buy more RAM, and the Search Indexer getting out of control, our main issue is that the spell-checker no longer works. When explicitly called (F7), it returns the error; "Cannot find the English(UK) dictionary…" and asks to reinstall it. We did actually try that, because the client insisted, but no joy. Under an Admin account, it runs fine. Any ideas?
