[THIN] Re: Hyper-V Released

True- think of this…..on a virtualization host we are seeing 16GB to 32GB of RAM, 64 GB is just around the corner and with CPU core density going up we are probably only a generation or two of servers away from a mid priced 8-16 core server with 64GB of RAM, so maybe it is sooner than we think!

I have a hard time imagining a 64GB RAM workstation, but then again, if you store your data on a solid state drive you would get to 64GB real fast and beyond….. I hear we should expect inexpensive solid state disks in 2009, so again, it might all be sooner then we think!!

So why exactly do we need anything more than 640K? My first Citrix servers were 90 Mhz machines with something 8MB RAM and we got about 12 users or so. Now you load a VDI virtualization host and with max ram you might get 20 or users- what’s up with that???

Hey, laugh now. I thought at one point that 64MB would be tonnes, I now sit here with 4GB of RAM in my PC and I still hit swap.

Give it 20 years and a terrabyte of RAM wouldn't seem all that out of the picture. I don't think we will be at the point of virtual reality desktop, but what we will do with the information, and how we access it I think will certainly change.

That is actually more than a little freaky isn’t it considering that mainstream virtualization really is the first big paradigm change in a long time! It could be nothing, but it also could be a very significant when we look back in a few years… stay tuned…..

I am about to roll out the new SAPGUI 7.1 and when I create a package using SAP package server it sets the variable SapFrontEndDir =  %ProgramFiles%\SAP\FrontEnd.

Is there an easy way to make this install to the D:\ rather than the C:\ I have tried a few options but cant get the syntax correct.

thanks

[THIN] Re: Secure Gateway 3.0 and Web Interface 4.5.1 question

Any hotfixes installed on SG 3.0? Hotfix 2 or later is required if installing WI and SG on same server.

What IP is the non-default site listening on? Create a HOSTS file entry for the site's FQDN and enter the local IP.

Run the SG wizard and pick advanced. On the WI page, uncheck "installed on this computer" and enter the FQDN of the WI website. Check box next to "Secure" and uncheck box next to "Default Port". Then enter 444 as the port.

When you are referring to the value for CSG...do mean this particular screen!! (Attached snap)

I don't remember what 3.51 one was exactly, but something like

Servername/Citrix/Metaframe/WebInterface

Subject: [THIN] Secure Gateway 3.0 and Web Interface 3.5.1 question

Hi Everyone

I have just about driven myself crazy trying to configure these.

I have no problems connecting with Secure Gateway if Web Interface is installed into the Default website on the IIS server. But if I create it in a new website in IIS and set Web Interface site etc... This all works from the Web Interface links. But Secure Gateway persists in opening the iistart.htm in the default website.

I am not sure if it is a config problem in Web Interface or Secure Gateway..

What am I doing wrong or not doing?? Please help

Thanks

Cherie

[THIN] Re: Secure Gateway 3.0 and Web Interface 4.5.1 question

I have the FQDN for the WI Gateway settings and I have the default access method set to "Gateway Direct". In the configure CSG wizard, I have been accepting the default of "Indirect" and leaving "Installed on this computer" enabled. As I do want the users to enter in the url of the secure gateway....and WI is installed locally.

I will go search through more doco.

Sorry, I don't have a CSG install handy to look at. There are two pieces- WI has to have it's DMZ setting to talk in gateway mode to the CSG with the FQDN of the CSG which is the outside public name not the WI site name. Then CSG should have a link value to where it forward to the WI but I don't know which screen that would be on….

Hi Steve

OK, oops on the subject, I meant WI 4.5.1.

When you are referring to the value for CSG...do mean this particular screen!! (Attached snap)

I have entered the WI address https://blsecure.bl.uk:444/Citrix/AccessPlatform, can't find server.

This is all on my testlan.

 Thanks for the help
