[THIN] Re: Hyper-V Released

True- think of this…..on a virtualization host we are seeing 16GB to 32GB of RAM, 64 GB is just around the corner and with CPU core density going up we are probably only a generation or two of servers away from a mid priced 8-16 core server with 64GB of RAM, so maybe it is sooner than we think!

I have a hard time imagining a 64GB RAM workstation, but then again, if you store your data on a solid state drive you would get to 64GB real fast and beyond….. I hear we should expect inexpensive solid state disks in 2009, so again, it might all be sooner then we think!!

So why exactly do we need anything more than 640K? My first Citrix servers were 90 Mhz machines with something 8MB RAM and we got about 12 users or so. Now you load a VDI virtualization host and with max ram you might get 20 or users- what’s up with that???

Hey, laugh now. I thought at one point that 64MB would be tonnes, I now sit here with 4GB of RAM in my PC and I still hit swap.

Give it 20 years and a terrabyte of RAM wouldn't seem all that out of the picture. I don't think we will be at the point of virtual reality desktop, but what we will do with the information, and how we access it I think will certainly change.
