[THIN] Re: Remove Server Drives & Content Redirection

Dan,

You can do 1. With group policies or local policies – here’s a starter http://www.msterminalservices.org/hidedrives.cfm

You can’t do 2 – content redirection works for redirected URLs only – so you can redirect a web page, or (say) streamed video/audio content to the local device’s web browser: but not, say, get an citrix app to launch a word document from the local version copy of word. This would be neat – but its not possible. Heres a document explaining server-> client redirection in  more depth http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX113457

I have two problems

1.       I would like to remove the ‘C’ and ‘D’ drives from the list of available drives and it only shows the users network drives, how can I go about doing this?

2.    I also have a piece of MIS  working perfectly in on my Citrix Server, but what i would like to do is if the User has Office installed on their client machine any reports run by MIS are 'pushed' to the Client machine and not run on the office install on the Citrix Server, i have turned on Content redirection but this has not worked.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Here is more info, it's an RPC vulnerability. Also affects Windows 7 for those curious. On Vista and 2008 it's rated important, critical for all others.

Wow this looks pretty serious.. it affects ALL versions of Windows back to 2000!
The webcast is scheduled for 1 pm pacific time today so I can't imagine the patch being available until later today.  I hope that this isn't something that will hit over this weekend.

[THIN] CPS 4.0 x ICA 9.2 Web Client.

All -

I have a rather legacy and simple install containing:

Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 sitting on W2k3 32bit.

In the DMZ i have:

Single Windows 2000 server hosting:

Web Interface 2.0 - It's the older blue and white screen..i know i know..
Secure Gateway 3.0

The latest client we have been using internally with great success has been the 9.2 version. However i somehow lost the actual installation file.

Is there a way i can get the ica32t.exe so i can place that in my  /inetpub/wwwroot/citrix/ICAWEB folder ?

I have an older 9.1 ica32pkg.msi, but when i run msiexec /a ica32pkg.msi  and make the neessary package requirements it doesn't simply generate an ica32t.exe

Most clients connect via web interface and it would be idea if i could get this file.

[THIN] Re: script to uncompress windows compressed files?

compact /u /s /i *.*

Tony, you totally rock! Thanks!

Steve,

I have a batch file that I've used to compress files of a certain age.

The important part of the batch is...
FORFILES -p%strDir% -s -d-%numAge% -c"CMD /C IF @ISDIR==FALSE COMPACT /C ""@PATH\@FILE"""

This uses the forfiles command (this was part of the resource kit or support tools, I think) to find files older than a certain age and compress them using the compact command.

You may be able to doctor up the forfiles parameters and change the /c to a /u to get what you want or maybe you could just run a 'compact /u /s' from the root.

wondering if anyone has a nice seek-&-destory script for uncompressing files/folders compressed by windows. Yes, you *should* be able to clear the compress flag at the roof of the folder, select all files and folders when prompted and let windows do it all. Too bad it didn't work.

thanks.

btw, I'm not a vmware expert but setting up virtuals with 9GB C: drives that are entirely compressed seems to have some minor performance impacts...

[THIN] Download Pick: ResSwitch Change Screen Resolution via shortcut or command line in Windows Vista and Windows XP

I needed to find a FREE program to change the resolution from the command line for Windows Vista. I found ResSwitch that is a program that uses the command line sent to it, to change the display mode. With ResSwitch you can create a number of shortcuts on your desktop using different command lines which will allow you to change mode with a simple double click on your desktop. I know... but right now they are migrating and merging everything to one farm. Good thing I helped them, they were going to put the WI on all their XenApp servers for no reason! They didn't know about PNagent and they were managing the icons on a per user shortcut basis.

I have to cleanup their profiles since they are going from W2k to W2k3 R2 and from MFXP to PS 4.5 FR1...

A couple things… One, they shouldn't be mixing farms and roaming profiles.  Second,  I wouldn't put the AMC on all of the servers, just the ZDCs and then publish it out.

I ran into a weird issue today.

At one of my customers, we are using "localhost" in the discovery process of the Citrix Servers. They are using this because they manage multiple farms and they want their roaming profile to always point to the local server in the AMC.

Today, we noticed that the 32bits icons were not showing correctly. Went in the console and noticed that the option for 32bit icons does not exist !!!! All the patchs were installed and working.

After messing around for a short while, i realized that if i put the server name instead of localhost, i get the 32bit options back and my new published apps gets a 32bits icons!

Weird i guess this has something to do with dcom security?

[THIN] Re: XenApp 4.5, Shadowing, and Encryption Level

From day one with Citrix - over 10 years ago, we turned on 128bit encryption and have never looked back. It just plain works. If you are having "shadow issues" it is due to something else in my opinion.

On Wed, Oct 22, 2008 at 8:24 AM, Jensen, Jay <jjensen@trane.com> wrote:

He wants to turn it off 128-bit encryption on our PSC clients and Pub Apps and use Basic encryption on them.

To me this seems scary from a secuirty stand-point but maybe I am too old school and needs to be educated.

Can someone help convince me he is right or am I seeing this clearly?

We are having some Shadow issues and he claims that 128-bit encryption on the PSC install is causing this issue with our Published and Desktop Published Applications (that are set to use 128-bit encryption). He wants to turn it off 128-bit encryption on our PSC clients and Pub Apps and use Basic encryption on them.

To me this seems scary from a secuirty stand-point but maybe I am too old school and needs to be educated.

Can someone help convince me he is right or am I seeing this clearly?

Thanks again for your support!

wondering if anyone has a nice seek-&-destory script for uncompressing files/folders compressed by windows.

[THIN] Re: script to uncompress windows compressed files?

Steve,

I have a batch file that I've used to compress files of a certain age.

The important part of the batch is...
FORFILES -p%strDir% -s -d-%numAge% -c"CMD /C IF @ISDIR==FALSE COMPACT /C ""@PATH\@FILE"""

[THIN] Download Pick: Snippy Snipping Tool For Windows XP

The Snipping Tool first introduced in Windows XP Tablet edition experience pack and now part of Windows Vista is a useful tool to capture and copy a portion of your computer screen to paste into blogs and documents.

It is a basic replacement for the Printscreen method of copying and pasting a portion of the screen which is not as granular and gives you a larger item when you paste it. I've seen lots of questions about how to get this functionality under the regular XP version. Snippy is the answer.

Read about Snippy for Windows XP and where to get it at the below link:

On the snippy page he does also suggest that it can be made to work with earlier versions of windwows (2000, me, 98) after installing VDI extensions.

All have system controlled passwords.  Does anyone know definitively the password strength used and whether the system changes the password on its own periodically?

I'm trying this question again since I put it out late Friday afternoon.  I hope there's an answer available.

Thanks !

If you're not comfortable with what passwords they are using. You
could prove they are strong by using a crack utility to try and break
them.

The simple solution here could be too:

- setup a group policy for the citrix servers / use GPedit.msc to make a local policy (on a per server basis).
- Define the required login script for the desired user groups within that policy.

We use MS terminal services, we also use Crystal reports. We are having an issue with Crystal Reports 10 over terminal services. I comes back with a generic “Can’t be read” error.

We also have Crystal 7 and it works fine over TS, we were told that upgrading to 11 will fix everything K, that’s why we have 10, and it obviously didn’t fix everything.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
