[THIN] Re: How do I pass through session variables when using runas?

From the command line, the RUNAS command allows a /env switch that might do what you want.

I’ve never seen that capability in the GUI but maybe it’s just very well hidden.

hmmmm the problem seems related to applying HRP04.  More testing needed.

We were trying to use trillian basic.  Problem seems to be it wants to write per user settings to the program files directory instead of the user profile/app data.  May just end up using Yahoo client.

Very restricted desktop, mandatory profile w/FPK, all apps provided via PNAgent. Need to be allow a user to run an app via RunAs for elevated privileges. I'm thinking provide a shortcut to pnamain.exe and let them run that with elevated privileges. Someone must have a better idea though.

[THIN] Negotiating Capabilities

Ok, hopefully you guys have some insight into this.

We put up a new farm of PS4.5 FP1.  we moved a server from the old PS4 farm to the new farm by uninstalling/reinstalling XenApp.  Everything seemed to go well with that but when we publish some streamed apps from that particular server it takes about 20-30 seconds for it to get beyond the Negotiating Capabilities stage of the logon process.  Licensing is set to Per User on the server, no redirected folders at all.

any ideas?

[THIN] IE 8 breaks sessions sharing in the Java ICA Client

Hi,

IE8 appears to break the Java Client's ability to do session sharing ... :(  - launching a new app in the WI gets a new session each and every time.

Anyone else having the problem? Anyone else got a workaround (that doesn't involve not using the Java ICA Client)?

[THIN] Re: OT: Crystal Decisions v8.5 activex viewer

Hi Matt,

Have you tried installing the ActiveX control manually, outside of IE?

It should be a cab file that you can locate on the Crystal server. Eg.
http://server/crystalreportviewers115/ActiveXControls/PrintControl.cab

1) Download or Copy the .cab file.
2) Extract the cab and you'll have a .dll file and an .inf file.
3) Copy them both to the "%systemRoot%\Downloaded Program Files" folder.
ie "C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files"
4) Then register the dll using regsvr32.exe
5) You will need to import any required registry entries, which you can
capture with regmon, etc.
- "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units" - We
only need to add some information to this part of the registry so that
the ActiveX plugin will display under Downloaded Program Files. Leaving
it out will not affect functionality.
- "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID" - Some ActiveX controls also write some
information here. Without it they will not function correctly.

Below is a script I used to automate the deployment of the Crystal
Reports Print Control ActiveX control to 40 odd Citrix
servers...probably very similar to what you are looking for.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,
Jeremy.

------------------------------------
@Echo off

:: Download the CAB from
http://server/crystalreportviewers115/ActiveXControls/PrintControl.cab
:: Extract the CAB. We only need the PrintControl.dll and
PrintControl.inf files.
:: Place them in the same folder as this script.

:: The .reg file is made up of registry settings after monitoring a
first time installation via IE.

:: Copy the PrintControl.* files into place.
xcopy /y "%~dp0PrintControl.*" "%systemRoot%\Downloaded Program Files\"

:: Register the PrintControl.dll.
regsvr32.exe -s "%SystemRoot%\Downloaded Program Files\PrintControl.dll"

:: Import the registry settings.
regedit -s "%~dp0CrystalPrintControl.reg"

Exit /b 0

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but it is happening on a Citrix farm
for what it's worth. Having an issue getting an old web app to work.
It uses this ActiveX control to display reports in IE. This version
of the control will not install on IE7 (which is on all Citrix
servers) even at low security settings and allowing unsigned activex
to install/run. I have tried forcing a newer version of the control
but the web app won't work with newer versions that have no issue with
IE7. Control works fine in IE6. Has anyone else faced/overcome this
issue?

[THIN] Re: Trying to script rdp-tcp permissions

Sorry I should have stated that these are win2k3 sp2 xenapp 4.5
servers. I am deploying smart auditor. Smart auditor only records ica
traffic and we want to have everyone including the sys admins only to
use ica.

[THIN] Re: Trying to script rdp-tcp permissions

Hi Magnus,

You can use the win32_tspermissionssetting Class to achieve this. Here
is a script I use to set both ICA and RDP permissions.

Cheers,
Jeremy.

----------------Script below-------------------------------------

' This script will set the required ICA and/or RDP listener permissions.
If blnDomainAccount

exist.

' For a Domain set blnDomainAccount to True, strDomain to your
domain, and strGroup to

' For a workgroup (non-Domain) set blnDomainAccount to False,
strGroup to the group you
' wish to add, and strGroupDescription to the description of the
group.

[THIN] Attachmate and Streaming

Anyone here streamed Attachmate?  we can get it to stream but whenever we open a config file, it blows up on us.  No errors, just poof gone.

[THIN] Re: OT: Crystal Decisions v8.5 activex viewer

It's a PS 4.0 farm. I don't think Advanced Edition supports AIE
though. I was thinking same lines though worse case of just having a
term server run IE6 and having a shortcut to that published app on the
users desktop.

Long term this may come up again. Anyone ever virtualize IE6 on a
terminal server (App-V or the new XenApp Application streaming)? Is
this difficult? Someday I'll get this farm upgraded to XA
5.0/Enterprise.

[THIN] Re: visio 2007 on w2k3 term srvr - windows installer always runs

I've found with the Office applications you have to install it in change user /install mode and then start and run the application once also in install mode (except outlook of course) so all registry values get written before putting the machine back in execute mode.  Same with programs like adobe etc. so that you can accept the license agreement first.

If I launch it as admin it runs much longer and the event log entry is event id 11728, configuration completed successfully. Exit the app, relaunch, it does it again for admin as well.

Does the application event log have any MSI events? Does one of them indicate a missing file or missing registry key?

any clues?

Are you launching as admin in /install mode?

[THIN] Re: RDP and server 2000

Dameware Mini Remote Control may be a good bet (http://www.dameware.com/ ) Might want to just get Dameware NT utilities which is included.  THis product is licensed by administrator so you can put the client on and connect to as many machines as you want! And it is priced quite reasonably.  I love this product! (Works great on Vista to connect right to session)

You could look into some other remote control software for your 2000 server.   From VNC to GoToMyPC.

Subject: [THIN] RDP and server 2000

Hi,

I am trying to do RDP from my client to a windows 2000 advance server based system (SP4) but always getting color depth at 265 bit. I know that by default server 2000 will give me 8 bit only. Is there some way to get higher color depth (16 bit atleast).

My Limitations:

1. I can't upgrade to server 2003 as the software which is supposed to be executed on server is compatible with 2000 only.

2. Citrix ICA is a solution but not interested in going to that as it will be a costly affair.

Thanks
