[THIN] Re: New HP Servers

Sounds like your system is being exhausted of resources. I would expect you’d be getting some 2019, 2020 or 2021 errors in the event logs. Two possible issues Jim.

1)      Running out of Kernel memory space

2)      MS Hotfixes

As Joe eluded to, disable PAE. PAE is all well and good, but it doubles the width of your page table entries (PTEs) which all comes out of the shared kernel memory space.

Tune the memory manager for paged pool memory as per KB312362.

Ensure you have all the known issues covered by hotfixes.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Jeremy.

Joe,

We usually have 100+ sessions running on each of these servers, it's been up to 140-150 at one point.  yes, the /PAE Switch is enabled.

Thanks,

Jim

How many users are you getting on the box before it stops responding?  Do you have the /PAE switch enabled?

Subject: [THIN] New HP Servers

We just purchased 8 new HP DL360 servers with dual Quad Core processors and 16GB or RAM.  We are running Win2k3 Enterprise.  Only 1 of them is R2.  We are have installed and published MS Office 2003 Professional, Adobe Acrobat Reader, a few Windows apps (e.g. notepad, etc.) and many URL links using I.E. 6 (we are NOT using IE 7).

The problem is that since we have put these servers into production we have had many issues with the servers hanging on us.  When this happens the server will no longer accept new connections (both RDP and ICA) and when you connect to iLO you just have a blank screen.  You can still see user connections via CMC but most users report very slow connections.

My guess is this has something to do with either these super fast / high memory new servers and our lack of configuration or McAfee Virus Scan 8.0 / ePO configuration.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me?

Thank you,

Jim Medeiros
