[THIN] Re: Multiple JVM versions

Hi Angela,

You can have as many different versions of the JVM installed as you wish, but only one can ever be associated to a browser at any one time. So will this seamlessly work for you? Well it all depends on how well the Java app has been coded. A larger majority of Java apps now days will call/execute the relevant Java version they require. If it’s not there, it “usually” continues to execute using the default “associated” version. So before you get scared off by words such as “isolation”, you need to test this first. If it will always use the default associated Java version, then you need to isolate it, just like Kevin and Greg suggested. So my point is, you can only test and see how it works, and then take action from there, or ask the list for further advice. As always, an application is only as intelligent as the developers that wrote it!

Cheers,

Jeremy.

The real question is what the JVM's are bound to. If all of them are needed in the IE browser then you have to look at an isolation or virtualization solution. I had success doing this with Thinstall back in the day, but I'm sure any of the major players can handle the job. Has anyone done it with Citrix App Isolation? Conversely, if they aren't tied to the browser, and the applications that use it can manage their own instances of the JVM, then you can run several versions without problems. For example, the old Citrix Presentation Server Management Console had its own JVM.

Hi

I have a special requirement where applications require specific JVM versions.  I need to have 3 different JVM's installed on Windows 2003 Citrix PS4 environment.  I have installed 2 JVM's on all my servers but am hesitant to add the third.  Has anyone successfully installed 3 JVM's on a Citrix Server?  Alternatively I can build a new server and use the third JVM from there.

Are there any other options I could try? IE JVM in Isolation environment?

Thanks
