[THIN] Re: quick question on virtualization platforms

That definition is a bit dated... You can install Windows XP, 2000, 2003,
2008, Vista without having to recompile the kernel. The OS is enlightened
via the system drivers that are installed. It's not different than what
VMWare is doing with 3.5 (the call it hardware assisted).

In my experience (limited) with Xen, which pre-dates the Citrix acquisition
of Xen, support for the Xen hypervisor had to be compiled into the kernel of
the guest OS.

The Wikipedia article for paravirtualization states: "However, operating
systems must be explicitly ported to run on top of a paravirtualized VMM.."

I presume this is still the case, but then again I don't have any recent
experience with Xen or any paravirtualized environment.
