All I know is that no matter how we moved it around into user profiles, shared templates, home drives, etc, users got a file in use error and save prompt for the redaction template every time they exited Word. We uninstalled it and the problem went away. from what I could tell with filemon, it always loaded itself from the install folder and ignored regular template locations.

Greg,
I am confused why your setup would load templates every time. It depends on where you put the templates. If you put it in the profile yeah, but you should be setting up a shared templates folder which don't get loaded into the document.

we had lots of problems with the redaction tool on Windows 2003 Server with PS 4.5 and Office 2003 and ultimately had to remove it. it is a template but doesn't use the standard rules/conventions for templates that Microsoft Office typically uses. It is a per machine template that loads anytime Word is used and as a result , Word users get lots of "file is in use" notifications when exiting word.

Law offices and personnel departments finding their offices plagued with requests for documents will find this tool indispensable. It basically lets you black out (redact)sensitive text in a word document. There is an add on redaction tool released by Microsoft for Word 2003 to do this but Microsoft has not officially released one for Word 2007. Read the article and get the links to download both the Word 2003 and unofficial Word 2007 redaction tool in the link below.
