Yes, Amanda is open source but there are companies out there commercializing it.  Zmanda is a decent one from what I can tell.  I have never used them but I know a guy at Raytheon who does. www.zmanda.com

Has anyone used/trialed MS Data Protecting?  Pricing is very attractive and it would cover Windows/SQL/Exchange. I could use Vizioncore's products for the VMware side of things.

I think Microsoft's Data Protection manager look interesting.  I also think Amanda backup looks like something worth trying.
