[THIN] Re: Citrix Farm across WAN design query

What is the latency between the sites? Are users in the remote site OK with the peformance when connecting to apps published in the main site? If you can't get an acceptable latency then you might want to continue to host XenApp servers in the remote site.

If you're not putting any other XenApp servers in the remote site then there is no need for a ZDC there.

Are you doing pure client printing or are you doing network printing directly from the Citrix server to the print server?

If client printing, leave print servers at the remote site (or configure the PCs to print directly). Create a Citrix policy with Print Job Routing set to Indirect.

If network printing, put print servers in the main site. Then consider WAN optimization to compress the print jobs as they travel across the WAN circuit.

You may want to keep a separate zone and dedicated ZDC for the servers across the pond.

Subject: [THIN] Citrix Farm across WAN design query

Hi

I currently manage 2 separate CPS 4 farms in different countries.  Each country has its own infrastructure and are completely separate.  Each country has CSG, Web Interface, ZDC and Presentation Servers.  Im looking at upgrading to Windows 2008/XenApp5 and am looking at creating 1 farm for both countries.  Both countries are connected with a 2Mb Frame Relay Link but we are happy to upgrade the link to make the solution work.  If we have all backend infrastructure in the Head Office (CSG, Web Interface, Presentation Server, ZDC), would there be issues if the other country utilised the same infrastructure or would it be recommended to have some Infrastructure at the second site?  If so what Infrastructure would be required in Site 2?  Eg ZDC, Print Servers etc etc

We currently have 20 Citrix Presentation Servers.  Any assistance in achieving this design would be appreciated.

Thanks
Angela
