By default SNMP is turned off on ESX servers.

Make sure SNMP is running:

# service snmpd status

To start it

# service snmpd start

You can verify the snmp community name in /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf.  By default it’s public.

You need to open port 161 on the ESX server.  Check in virtual center under configuration -> security profile.  Make sure SNMP is listed.

I tried it too and it won't speak to my esx servers too - says it doesn't resond to the community string. Went on my orion server and it's talking to them with the same string.

I signed up for the newsletter and downloaded the product.  I've installed
it on a Win2003 server but it won't talk to my ESX servers since apparently
the ESX servers do not have SNMP turned on.  Has anyone found the support
forum for this new product yet? I can't seem to locate it.
