[THIN] Re: Office 2007

We had some problems with forms using vbScript in Outlook 2007, the recommendations in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302003 didn’t help either. Putting on all the office updates sorted that out in the end.

Regarding the new UI I still find myself cursing MS and muttering “Where have they put it?” when I’m trying to do certain things although this site can help...

Interactively click the old Excel 2003 menu, and then the site shows you where it hides (and it DOES hide!) in Excel 2007...

Here the biggest seller is Outlook 2007, several departments have requested it, the only person who tried the suite and rejected it happens to be the IS manager, but we trust that some day he will join us in the 21st century J

My experience, of about 200 users in loads of different offices and industries, is that most users swear for about 3-4 hours till they work out there’s no File Menu any more, and then love it.

Where we’ve given people the option of testing it, not one has gone backwards.

Particularly, we’ve had people literally *begging* to move to Powerpoint 2007. Dunno why, as I don’t use it, but those who do that sort of thing  love it.

Stabililty in Ts is fine, uses a bit more RAM than 2003 – you may get say 10% less users per box if Office is your primary app- , though interestingly I’ve noticed it apparently using less Ram on a 64-bit Windows 2008 TS (Whereas Office 2003 uses stupid amounts on a 64-bit Windows 2003).

i can't get used to that damn ribbon.  I think that just as Vista was a step backward to XP, Office 2007 is a step backwards to Office 2003.  I'm talking in terms of users trying to get their work done and earn a paycheck.  From a technical perspective, i understand the improvements, security, etc, etc.

But most users don't care about that.  Either it helps them do their jobs easier and faster or it doesn't.  Office 2007 slows them down.

I'll second that – once you get used to the Ribbon it's actually not too bad. I can't go back to Outlook 2003 now. Also works fine in PS 4.0/4.5

We've been using Office 2007 in our Citrix Environment (4.5) for a while now.  Behaves better than Office 97 if you ask me.  Works just fine with Windows XP too.

We're considering going to Office 2007 next year, but I've heard so many stories about programs crashing (more than usual) and I personally don't like the new Interface (no toolbars).

Does Office 2007 work okay in a Citrix environment?
Does it work well on Windows XP?
Are most people waiting for the next version, or switch completely to another product?

We don't to go ahead and spend so much money on something that does not work.
I have Office 2007 on a Vista PC at home, I've had no major problems with it ( I don't use Outlook).  I hate the new Interface, but that's all.

Thanks,
