[THIN] UPHClean new Beta version 2.0.49.0

Hello there,

I didn't spot any posts about this...

A new UPHClean beta has been released 2.0.49.0

I had problems with UPHClean 2.0.48.0 on our 32 bit PS 4.5 (and older PS 4) Servers but it works ok on our 64 bit PS 4.5 Servers.

Our 64 bit and 32 Bit servers have the same MS security and Private hotfixes but the 32bit servers would BSOD at odd times when users logged off. I went back to 1.6 and the issues stopped on the 32 bit servers. The 64 bit servers never exhibited the same issue.

However, Microsoft also released a couple of patches that I have started testing. All are related to logoffs.

We also are users of Appsense and their excellent Hybrid Profile solution  - Environment Manager (EM).
EM also has a couple of issues with UPHClean 2.0.48.0 as well so i am also testing that with the new version.

4.5 fails to install if the
hklm/system/currentcontrolset/winstation/ica is created in advance
(usually by a group policy). Make sure to delete this key before
install if you want sucess.

Hi,

Kixstart is brilliant but seeing as Citrix use ctxhide to hide usrlogon.cmd so there's no reason that couldn't be used to hide any other batch file.

My work around for launching CMD files / custom scripts for starting published apps is to use Kix as the app execution script engine.

www.kixtart.org

Very robust scripting language that you can generally port DOS commands directly into.

So, the Pub App calls a CMD / BAT file which then calls to the KIX script. Just in case you can also flag the console to hide within Kix.

Since you already have the logic worked out for the Batch script. You could probably do the following:

CMD / BAT script =

@echo off

IF /I "%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%"=="AMD64" (

kix32.exe C:\scripts\64bitexcel.kix

) ELSE (

kix32.exe C:\scripts\32bitexcel.kix

)

Exit /B 0

Kix script1 = "64bitexcel.kix"

SETCONSOLE="HIDE"
RUN "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE"

Kix script2 = "32bitexcel.kix"

SETCONSOLE="HIDE"
RUN "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE"

All that's needed for this, would be the Kix32.exe under C:\windows\system32 on any of the TS servers which might execute it.

It would be cleaner to convert the processor identity logic into the Kix script, so that you only need 2 scripts per app (CMD just calls to a single Kix script, which checks proc types, then runs correct app), but the above should at least get you going for testing this out.

[THIN] New Free App - TSKaapow

Hi All

I've got to say this simple little application even surprised me when running it as a Published
application on Citrix.
Although it's not just for Citrix, it allows you to launch multiple application from one command and
each application
runs in it's own process – works like a treat as a published application. I launched 4 applications
from one command
in a seamless published environment and the test user was only using a single license on the same
server, without
need for a full desktop, and with one click of a button. Additionally, the test user saw each
application as an individual
program and could close different applications without closing the session entirely. The session
closed when the last
application was closed.

Download it as always for free at Ctrl-Alt-Del IT Consultancy - http://www.ctrl-alt-

TSKaapow is a command-line utility to run multiple applications from one command.
This utility was written to allow a single call to launch multiple applications
in their own process, ensuring that a user has access to only the applications
they require in a single seamless or desktop session.
TSKaapow with its parameters can exist as a shortcut on the desktop, can be run in
a script, or published as a single application that runs multiple applications,
each with its own process. TSKaapow will work as a Seamless Published application
in a Citrix environment. If multiple applications are launched via TSKaapow in a
Seamless environment, the session will not close until all applications have been
closed. In this scenario, if three applications are opened via TSKaapow, and one
is closed by the user, the other two applications continue functioning without error.

Usage:
TSKaapow [[PATH][Application] [PATH][Application] ...] [/?]

PATH - Path to the Application
Application - Application Executable
/? - Show this help file

TSKaapow without parameters will display this help file.

NOTE: If a PATH or Application does not exist, TSKaapow will
terminate at that point. Any applications launched prior will
still be operational.

E.G. TSKaapow "c:\Program Files\Office11\EXCEL.EXE" c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe
This command will launch MS Excel and notepad one after the other.

E.G. TSKaapow "c:\Program Files\Office11\EXCEL.EXE" "c:\windows\system32\notepad.exe
h:\MyTextfile.txt"
This command will launch MS Excel and h:\MyTextfile.txt in notepad
one after the other.

This utility is FREEWARE and was written by Warren Simondson of

Although written for Terminal Server and Citrix environments, this application
will function on non-TS/Citrix workstations and servers.
This application has been tested on the following platforms:

Windows 2008 Server
Windows 2003 Server SP1
Windows 2003 Server SP1 w/ Citrix PS 4.0/ XA 5.0
Windows 2003 Server SP1 (Terminal Server Application Mode)

Windows 2000 Server SP4 (Terminal Server Application Mode)
Windows 2000 Server SP4 w/ Citrix MF 1.8
Windows XP Professional (domain member)

[THIN] Rumba

anyone out there know where Rumba stores it's files?

I need to change the setting under : Options->Terminal...->Key Assignments

the "send enter Key as" needs to be changed from CR/LF to just CR.

I managed to get all the connection settings pre-configured by copying the NetManage directory into everyone's appdata folder but the Key Assignment setting is eluding me.  I tried filemon and regmon with no lcuk.

[THIN] Free App - XLaunch - Multi OS Architecture Application Launcher

Hi All

Another free application that's targeted at administrators who run multiple OS Architectures (x86
and x64) in Citrix and Terminal Server and want to publish only one application to call the program
that is associated with the specific platform the user has logged on to. Download it as always for
free at Ctrl-Alt-Del IT Consultancy - http://www.ctrl-alt-del.com.au/CAD_TSUtils.htm

XLaunch is a command-line utility that uses a single executable to launch.
programs based on 32 bit or 64 bit OS Platforms.
This utility was written to allow similar applications from different
platforms to be executed from one shortcut. In a Citrix environment that
utilizes Published Applications across different OS Architectures, this
program allows the use of a single published application to launch OS
Architecture specific programs that are similar in application.

Usage:

XLaunch [32 Bit Application] [64 Bit Application] [/?]

[32 Bit Application] - Path to the 32 bit Application executable.

[64 Bit Application] - Path to the 64 bit Application executable.

This command will launch the 32 bit version of Excel if running on an x86
OS or the 64 bit version of Excel if running on x64.

E.G. XLaunch c:\Myprogs\My32BitApp.exe c:\Myprogs\My64BitApp.exe

This command will launch My32BitApp.exe if running on an x86 OS or
My64BitApp.exe if running on x64.

E.G. XLaunch "c:\Program Files X86\Office11\EXCEL.EXE H:\MySheet.xls" "c:\Program Files X64
\Office12\EXCEL.EXE H:\MySheet.xls"

This command will launch the 32 bit version of Excel if running on an x86
OS or the 64 bit version of Excel if running on x64. It will also open the
spreadsheet H:\Mysheet in both instances.

This will work... If you are using GSLB you could also reuse the same SSL
(provided you're licensed for it from signer). I've setup multiple CSG
before for HA and load balancing.

I have a Citrix Secure Gateway hitting my farm now. I have a new
Disaster Recovery Citrix server in a different site(same farm).
I WANT to add a new(second) citrix secure gateway at the Disaster
Recovery location, and have it point to the citrix box at that site.

Obviously the new SG will have it's own external IP, its own SSL cert,
etc. Everything will be in the same farm though.
Any foreseen issues that anyone can think of?

[THIN] Re: Change the login to the Data Store

That is correct, you can copy and modify the exist dsn file. If anything,
you should be able to use the existing (without copying) mf20.dsn file if
the database/database server name hasn't changed.

Subject: [THIN] Change the login to the Data Store

I have a requirement to change the login to the Data Store from the Domain
Administrator account to a Service Account. The Farm is PS 4.6, database is
SQL 2000.

A couple of questions on this:

1. Apart from DBO, what other permissions on the database will the Service
Account need?

2. How do I create the new DSN file? Can I copy the existing one and modify
that? I understand that I would then use dsmaint config /user:username
/pwd:password /dsn:dsnfilename

Any advice much appreciated!

Has anyone seen this error before?

Unable to connect to the CGP tunnel destination (127.0.0.1:1494)

I have a server that in all respects other than this error appears to be fine, but cannot accept connections.  Telnet to port 1494 fails as well.

[THIN] Multiple Secure Gateways in same farm?

Are there any issues with having 2 separate Secure Gateways in the same farm?
I have a Citrix Secure Gateway hitting my farm now. I have a new
Disaster Recovery Citrix server in a different site(same farm).
I WANT to add a new(second) citrix secure gateway at the Disaster
Recovery location, and have it point to the citrix box at that site.

Obviously the new SG will have it's own external IP, its own SSL cert,
etc. Everything will be in the same farm though.
Any foreseen issues that anyone can think of?

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Hi All,

I'm working on creating a central csv log of all logon / logoff requests to our citrix farms.

So far I have cribbed together a vbs running via logon / logoff scripts to collect various data from environmental variables and append to a daily csv file.

It's working OK, but I'd like to extend to include the name of the current published application & client ip address, but I can't figure out how to get this.

Also, does anyone know of a way to trigger a script when a session disconnects or reconnects?

He's some VBS to help you with get the output from a command line to a variable in VBS

----------------------------------
Dim WshShell, oExec
Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

'The tool is launched
Set oExec = WshShell.Exec("getpubapp.exe")

'We wait for the end of process
Do While oExec.Status = 0
WScript.Sleep 100
Loop

'initialize the variable that the output will go to
MyVar=""

'We scan and append the command output flow to MyVar
Do While oExec.StdOut.AtEndOfStream <> True

MyVar = MyVar + oExec.StdOut.ReadLine
Loop

'MyVar is now ready to be used with the command line output assigned
'In this example we'll just write it to the screen with some asterix
'either side

Wscript.Echo "****"+MyVar+"****"

[THIN] Re: Error installing XenApp 5 on W2008

I've done a bit more research on this and the action it is failing on is:

Adds the icammdrv64.cat and icaendpoint64.cat files to the catalog database. This action executes during the installation of XenApp server on Windows Server 2008 64-bit Edition

The source of this is a very good documenting of where XenApp deviates from the Windows 2008 Logo requirements @ http://support.citrix.com/article/ctx117944

I've still not resolved the issue.

Citrix is getting to be lazy as they hardly put any effort into effort into XenApp 5 for Windows 2003.  The only thing that is new is an updated version of Isolation.  You could say WI is updated but a .0.1 release as WI 5 was already released with XenDesktop.  They also didn't bother to repackage and rebrand the install.  So really, XA 5 should have been a 4.6 released.

I understand it can be done as put disk into $.5 Server and run Setup.

Hi all, it's been a while since I've played with file association on Windows 2003 TS.
How do I enforce file assoc. for a particular extension?
I have Project 2000 and Project 2007 on the same server and I'd like to associate mpp files with Project 2000.

Would a change user /install do it?
I know there are registry entries in HK_Classes_Root and in the user's profile as well.

Thanks,

[THIN] One for the script kiddies....

Hi All,

I’m working on creating a central csv log of all logon / logoff requests to our citrix farms.

So far I have cribbed together a vbs running via logon / logoff scripts to collect various data from environmental variables and append to a daily csv file.

It’s working OK, but I’d like to extend to include the name of the current published application & client ip address, but I can’t figure out how to get this.

Also, does anyone know of a way to trigger a script when a session disconnects or reconnects?

[THIN] Re: Citrix upgrade from 4.5 to XenApp

True,  if you have a current SA you can download and install the ICA 11, WI 5.0.1 and Isolation 3.0 components without having to upgrade to XA 5.0.  In, fact once you do that you’re already at XenApp 5.

Web interface 5.01 loads the apps about 10 times faster, that is the biggest  improvement.  It also does device detection now and has a mobile portal.

I posted a blog entry on my upgrade here:

It has links to all the files you need in mycitrix for the wi files.

From what has been said in the replies, is there in fact, a reason to upgrade to XenApp 5.0 at all? There is no requirement to upgrade your OS to Windows Server 2008.

Kind regards,
Toby

Sorry never done an OS upgrade on a Citrix server before, only the Citrix itself.

Thanks all for your info.

To upgrade PS 4.5 to XenApp 5 is pretty simple.  Just following this simple step:

1)      Wait for it…Wait for it… Wait for it… Congratulations! Your now running XenApp 5!

2)      Update WI, ICA Client, Isolation Client as needed

Citrix is getting to be lazy as they hardly put any effort into effort into XenApp 5 for Windows 2003.  The only thing that is new is an updated version of Isolation.  You could say WI is updated but a .0.1 release as WI 5 was already released with XenDesktop.  They also didn't bother to repackage and rebrand the install.  So really, XA 5 should have been a 4.6 released.

Hi,

We currently have a Citrix PS 4.5 and as part of our Citrix advantage subscriptions want to upgrade to XenApp,.

Is there any gotchas that anyone is aware of for this upgrade.

I understand it can be done as put disk into $.5 Server and run Setup.

TIA for your help

[THIN] Re: Citrix upgrade from 4.5 to XenApp

For 2008, there are all kinds of benefits.  Granted, most of these new features and benefits are provided by the Microsoft and not  Citrix.   XenApp 5 is required for Windows 2008 and it is really is the only reason to upgrade to XenApp 5.

XenApp 5 for Windows 2003 is nothing more than XenApp 4.5 with Rollup 2.

As far as an in place upgrade to Windows 2008,  I would not suggest it nor would I support it at any of my customers.   The best thing to do is to perform a fresh installation.
