[THIN] Re: Symbol bar code scanners

alright, I'm close - map com3: to \\client\com1: and try it, it tries to connect, the scanner thinks it transmitted, but the log file gets gobbly-gook in it and the file doesn't come over. If I connect via mstsc & map the com ports - works great.

So perhaps my new question should be, how can I make citrix map com ports like mstsc maps com ports?

[THIN] Re: an easy way to silently run the IE8 setup wizard

All I can find is a 16.1  MB installation file.  I believe this is not the full download.
I'm looking to install it on machines that are not on the Internet.

I use this registry key to effectively block IE8

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\8.0]
"DoNotAllowIE80"=dword:00000001

Works for IE7 as well, just change the 8.0 to 7.0 and DoNotAllowIE80 to DoNotAllowIE70

Cheers

Has anybody found an easy way to silently run the IE8 setup wizard?

I have users running IE via a published application.  The first time they run the IE it hangs and never shows the startup wizard or the webpage.

If the same user connects to a desktop and launches IE8 and goes through the setup wizard and logs off. Then when he launches the published IE8 application it works fine.

[THIN] LogConduit Window

When users run this web-based .NET application a LogConduit window pops up as well.  You can close it, but every new window you open up in the application creates another instance of this LogConduit window.  This seems to only happen over a Citrix session (does not happen when user logs into the terminal server locally and run the app, for instance).  Anyone have any insights on what that is and how to get rid of it?  TIA.

[THIN] TS Home drive and appending Domain

Having and issue with the domain information being appended to the username
on the Terminal Server Home drive share. I have implemented folder
redirection. The folders which have just the username and not the domain
name appended are seeing the redirected folders, however, those with the
domain name appended are not. All new users are getting the domain appended
to their name. As I recall this was a "feature" of Windows 2003 SP1. These
servers are Windows 2003 R2 SP2. Does anyone remember the fix for this.

Thanks,

Mike

Does the web client include the universal print driver these days or is that still just a full client option only?

[THIN] Re: Fun with Oracle

Btrieve.

on a more serious note:

Subject: ORA-12154 or ORA-6413 Running 32-bit Oracle Software on 64-bit Windows OS
Doc ID: Note:334528.1

Symptoms: You are attempting to connect to the Oracle database from a Windows platform using one of the following programmatic interfaces

ODBC
OLEDB
OO4O
ODP.NET

after installing 32-bit Oracle client software on a 64-bit Windows operating system (OS) you receive one of the following errors:

ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

or

ORA-6413: Connection not open. Cause64-bit Microsoft OS's install 32-bit applications into the following location

"C:\Program Files (x86)\..."
rather than the typical location of

"C:\Program Files\..."
This causes an existing networking bug to occur where the networking layer is unable to parse program locations that contain parenthesis in the path to the executable which is attempting to connect to Oracle.

The following bug has been filed to correct this behavior:

Bug 3807408 - CANNOT EXTERNALLY AUTHENTICATE USER WITH QUOTE IN USERNAME

Additional Information

The reason you receive an ORA-12154 vs. an ORA-6413 is generally due to which programmatic interface you have chosen to use to connect to Oracle.

The ORA-12154 is the typical error seen when connecting with up-to-date interfaces using the latest version of the Oracle Call Interface (OCI):

Oracle ODBC Driver
Oracle Provider for OLE DB
Oracle Objects for OLE
Oracle Data Provider for .NET (ODP.NET)
Microsoft's .NET Managed Provider for Oracle
The ORA-6413 is typical of using older interfaces which make legacy API calls such as Oracle's OCI Version 7 API:

Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle

SolutionTo resolve this problem try either of the following solutions:

SOLUTION 1:

Use a version of the Oracle software that contains the fix for Bug 3807408.

NOTE: Currently the following patches have been released on Windows:

Windows 32-bit
9.2.0.7.0 Patch 6: Apply Patch 4928723 or later
10.2.0.1.0 Patch 4: Apply Patch 4923768 or later
10.2.0.2.0 Patch 5: Apply Patch 5383042 or later
10.2.0.3.0: Apply Patch 5337014 or later

Windows 64-bit AMD64 and INTEL EM64T

10.2.0.1.0 Patch 4: Apply Patch 4923787 or later
10.2.0.2.0 Patch 5: Apply Patch 5388871 or later
10.2.0.3.0: Apply Patch 5337014 or later

For all other versions on Windows please use SOLUTION 2 for now.

SOLUTION 2:

Find the location of the application that is generating the error. Check the path to this location and see if it contains any parenthesis. If so, you must relocate the application to a directory without any parenthesis in the path.

I saw an article about Oracle not being able to handle the install location of XA on 64 bit servers.  It chokes on the "Program Files (x86)" path.  Seriously?  that seems pretty out there.  Even for oracle.  It seems odd that I will have to reinstall XenApp just to use Oracle.

[THIN] Server Core 2008 Configuration

For those of you who are building Windows 2008 Server Core DC's, whether in a test environment
or live site, have a look at this little gem which provides a simple GUI to quickly configure the
server core.

http://ctxadmtools.musumeci.com.ar/VisualCore2008/VisualCore11_Beta2_Refresh.html

In most cases we use powershell to script the process, but this is a handy little GUI to help those
who find it difficult to use the command line for Server Core configuration.

Try these tools: http://www.thomaskoetzing.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=135&Itemid=207

You can export your published apps to text fille, make the change, and then re-import them.

Cheers,

I use this registry key to effectively block IE8

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\8.0]
"DoNotAllowIE80"=dword:00000001

Works for IE7 as well, just change the 8.0 to 7.0 and DoNotAllowIE80 to DoNotAllowIE70

Cheers

You can disable the startup wizard through GPO as well.

I thought IEAK took care of some of these issues.

Best Regards,

MFCOM and script it – what do you need to change?

Greetings List Legendaries!

I have around 50 apps that need to be reconfigured to be displayed under their own FOLDER in PNAGENT / WI.
The change is no problem, its the effort involved!

Any idea what I can use to edit all the selected apps simultaneously (like selecting 15 users in AD and changing their telephone number)

Maybe MFCOM? or Powershell? or ...

Suggestions greatly appreciated! :-)
