[THIN] Re: Edit Multiple Published Apps Simultaneously?

Mostly the Shortcut Presentation - need to reorganise a number of apps into folders for separate departments.
Also need to add some extra servers to some of the published app properties...

I use this registry key to effectively block IE8

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\8.0]
"DoNotAllowIE80"=dword:00000001

Works for IE7 as well, just change the 8.0 to 7.0 and DoNotAllowIE80 to DoNotAllowIE70

Cheers

[THIN] Fun with Oracle

So i have two Windows 2003 x64 servers with XA 5 installed pointing to Access.

I am trying to move them to Oracle.   Both of them have a working Oracle client.  I can tnsping the db, and connect with SQL plus using the proper credentials.

I am running chfarm and choosing the new farm option.

On one of the servers, Oracle isn't even an option.  Not sure why but it's not in the drop down list.

so I tried the other server, Oracle is an option, but I get a "Database connection canceled or failed" message.

I saw an article about Oracle not being able to handle the install location of XA on 64 bit servers.  It chokes on the "Program Files (x86)" path.  Seriously?  that seems pretty out there.  Even for oracle.  It seems odd that I will have to reinstall XenApp just to use Oracle.

Anyone else run into this or have any idea on it?

Thanks

Greg

You can disable the startup wizard through GPO as well.

Has anybody found an easy way to silently run the IE8 setup wizard?

I have users running IE via a published application.  The first time they run the IE it hangs and never shows the startup wizard or the webpage.

If the same user connects to a desktop and launches IE8 and goes through the setup wizard and logs off. Then when he launches the published IE8 application it works fine.

I have around 50 apps that need to be reconfigured to be displayed under their own FOLDER in PNAGENT / WI.
The change is no problem, its the effort involved!

Any idea what I can use to edit all the selected apps simultaneously (like selecting 15 users in AD and changing their telephone number)

Maybe MFCOM? or Powershell? or ...

Suggestions greatly appreciated! :-)

[THIN] Re: Negotiating Capabilities

Interesting find is that with the HRP's installed there is an inordinate amount of LDAP traffic happening during the negotiating capabilities phase.  If you uninstall the HRP's then the traffic goes away and the logon's are fine.

Ok completely confirmed it is a problem with the roll up packs.  Fresh install, no HRP's and everything works great.  Put the HRP on and it goes to hell.  blah

Also this delay was not there when it was in the old farm.  If we use the ZDC as the server to stream the apps too then the apps launch just fine.  It's just this one server.

Anyone else have any ideas?

The server is in the right OU.  DNS communication between the ZDC and server seems to be ok.  ping times are excellent.

I forgot to mention session reliability is not enabled.  The server that we are running apps from is actually in the DMZ while the ZDC is in the LAN.  we get no errors in the event logs.  We are starting the apps from WI but when the apps run from PNA everything starts just fine.

Ok, hopefully you guys have some insight into this.

We put up a new farm of PS4.5 FP1.  we moved a server from the old PS4 farm to the new farm by uninstalling/reinstalling XenApp.  Everything seemed to go well with that but when we publish some streamed apps from that particular server it takes about 20-30 seconds for it to get beyond the Negotiating Capabilities stage of the logon process.  Licensing is set to Per User on the server, no redirected folders at all.

any ideas?
