[THIN] Attachmate and Streaming

Anyone here streamed Attachmate?  we can get it to stream but whenever we open a config file, it blows up on us.  No errors, just poof gone.

[THIN] Re: OT: Crystal Decisions v8.5 activex viewer

It's a PS 4.0 farm. I don't think Advanced Edition supports AIE
though. I was thinking same lines though worse case of just having a
term server run IE6 and having a shortcut to that published app on the
users desktop.

Long term this may come up again. Anyone ever virtualize IE6 on a
terminal server (App-V or the new XenApp Application streaming)? Is
this difficult? Someday I'll get this farm upgraded to XA
5.0/Enterprise.

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but it is happening on a Citrix farm for what it's worth. Having an issue getting an old web app to work.
It uses this ActiveX control to display reports in IE. This version of the control will not install on IE7 (which is on all Citrix
servers) even at low security settings and allowing unsigned activex to install/run. I have tried forcing a newer version of the control but the web app won't work with newer versions that have no issue with IE7. Control works fine in IE6. Has anyone else faced/overcome this issue?

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but it is happening on a Citrix farm
for what it's worth. Having an issue getting an old web app to work.
It uses this ActiveX control to display reports in IE. This version
of the control will not install on IE7 (which is on all Citrix
servers) even at low security settings and allowing unsigned activex
to install/run. I have tried forcing a newer version of the control

[THIN] Re: visio 2007 on w2k3 term srvr - windows installer always runs

I've found with the Office applications you have to install it in change user /install mode and then start and run the application once also in install mode (except outlook of course) so all registry values get written before putting the machine back in execute mode.  Same with programs like adobe etc. so that you can accept the license agreement first.

Dameware Mini Remote Control may be a good bet (http://www.dameware.com/ ) Might want to just get Dameware NT utilities which is included.  THis product is licensed by administrator so you can put the client on and connect to as many machines as you want! And it is priced quite reasonably.  I love this product! (Works great on Vista to connect right to session)

Hi,

I am trying to do RDP from my client to a windows 2000 advance server based system (SP4) but always getting color depth at 265 bit. I know that by default server 2000 will give me 8 bit only. Is there some way to get higher color depth (16 bit atleast).

My Limitations:

1. I can't upgrade to server 2003 as the software which is supposed to be executed on server is compatible with 2000 only.

2. Citrix ICA is a solution but not interested in going to that as it will be a costly affair.

Thanks

[THIN] Re: IMA Service Failure

Ive installed, it and its upgraded perfectly.
Am adding it now to the MDT scripted build to see what happens . . i still think its the timing / section of when the Patch is applied as MD calls it.

I will force the MSI logging this time and see if its coming up with errors...

Thanks again for your advice.

Yup, did an upgrade for a XA4.5/5.0 Farm today with R04…  It's a little annoying that R04 is out, yet Citrix is posting is still posting hotfixes based on R03.  Time to post a question to the forum.

The newly built machine is now working again, with the IMA service changed BACK (by the hotfix) to run as network service. Sweet!
It may be the order in which the MDT install calls the tasks or the MDT not giving the RO3 install enough time to exit...

Greetings list legends of the universe:

This one is driving me nuts. We are using MDT to build a Citrix XenApp server, FP1, W2K3 R2 SP2

If we add the R03 update as a build task, the server joins the farm, with errors, then on the second reboot (or restart of the IMS service) the IMA Service fails.

We get the following errors:
Popup: Windows could not start the Citrix Independent Management Architecture on Local COmputer...... service-specific error code
-2147483647

Event Viewer: The Citrix Independent Management Architecture service terminated with service-specific error 2147483649

Failures
Recreating the LHC, and radecache is successful but doesnt fix
Changing access permissions to TEMP directory doesnt fix a thing
Running CHFARM Fails: An Error occured while attempting to start the IMA service to the same farm or any other database (even local access farm)

Success
Changing the service to run as Local Service is the only thing that seems to work, but im reluctant to do that as all the other servers run as Network Service, but I Am concerned the service will not get all the required permissiosn it needs if running as local service?!?! I am however able to connect to a published desktop on ths trouble server/s

Removing R03 from the build process and applying manually after the full system build is the only thing that seems to work, which is not a solution as the systems need to build themselves with all latest updates....

Can we leave the IMA as local system?
Any advice appreciated!

[THIN] Re: Streaming MYOB

Warren, I will try a few things this end like you said.
Im certain its a config / "not so blank" server that we are publishing on thats breaking things... :-)

My sincerest thanks once more, as you have indeed been a great help / learning experience.
Ill keep on with the trial version for now, as it works fine without profiling it... :-)

Regards
James

[THIN] Re: Streaming MYOB

Hi James

that's unfortunate that our testing still didn't help you. I'm not so sure that the demo installer
would be the problem, but we did use an official CD out of a MYOB box product. If you would like
an FTP site to download this version, please let me know and I can provide it via a secure email.
There's no copyright infringment here becasue the software can be installed and distributed
anywhere - it's the company file that must be activated. Let me know and I'll send you the link.

As for the profiling machine, we treat building profiles like we did when Citrix Installation
Manager was the rage many years ago (how old do I feel) - build everything on a new image of
a blank machine. In this MYOB example, we simply built a BLANK Windows 2003 sp2 machine
with nothing else on it, to be the profiling machine. We didn't install any other program, we
didn't add it to the domain, etc. All pretty basic. We did install Office 2k3/ 2k7 on the profiling
machine on the second run of tests to try and break it, and we got the results as stated. One
other note is that our profiling machine and our Citrix Server that we streamed the package to
and published, were Xenserver 5.0.0.u3 VM's, but it should make much difference. For me, the
rule is to profile your packages on a clean machine everytime, unless the program relies on
another software package. And when buidling package for a Citrix environment, only install the
operating system you are using + sp's +hotfixes. Don't install Citrix, Don't add Terminal
Services, just a vanilla install and that's it.

We had success every time with MYOB like this, except when Office 2k3/2k7 became part of the
mix. If you want the FTP link, let me know. I'm happy to help you where I can so keep me in
the loop if you are banging you head against a brivk wall.

Cheers

[THIN] Re: Streaming MYOB

Warren,

My sincerest thanks once more for your further input.
I was certain this wasnt supposed to be as troublesome as it has been as myob is typically a very easy install.

Regardless, im still having issues.

We dont have Office 2007 (just 2003 sp3)
I have removed the officelink and outlooksync
No linked profiles are configured
Quick Install is utilised.

Do you think it could be because we are usign the "demo installer" from the myob website?

Should I setup a BLANK windows machine to profile it on rather than the current environment or is it best practice to always profile the program on a machine that will be similar/identical to the server the program will be streamed onto?

Anyway I will continue to smash it out this end and see what happens, i am confident we will get a resolution, its just frustrating that something that is usually simple, still isnt working!!  :-)

Sincerely
James
