The registry setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\ICA Client\PASS THROUGH\PASS THROUGH must be set to 1 on the pass-through server.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON!

Vista no longer updates the last accessed timestamp, and Win 2000,
2003 and XP (and possibly NT4, I don't quite recall if this was
introduced in SP4 or not) can be 'tweaked' to do the same. Check that
your build teams haven't implemented this tweak, as it is quite a
popular one, and can cause you problems if you're not expecting it:
http://blogs.technet.com/filecab/archive/2006/11/07/disabling-last-access-time-in-windows-vista-to-improve-ntfs-performance.aspx

Perhaps you should run your script in "logging only" mode for a while,
and write it so that it checks both the last accessed and last
modified timestamps, as well as the archive attribute on the file.

If possible, try to log the owner and location of each file when you
delete it, too.
This will help prevent Bob (the sales weasel) from phoning the
helpdesks and getting all of Alice's (payroll) spreadsheets restored
to his home drive.

Hi

Sorry for the OT question but Im hoping someone out there can assist.  I need to find a tool that will delete files not accessed/modified in x months on a Windows 2003 File Server.  It would also be great if it logged whatever it deleted.  We have a server with heaps of old files that have not been accessed in years and I need to delete the old files.  I had a look at Treesize Pro but Im hoping to find a better tool.  The server in question has over 8TB of disk so Im hoping to find a decent reliable product that can handle such data volumes.

[THIN] Re: Multiple JVM versions

Hi Angela,

You can have as many different versions of the JVM installed as you wish, but only one can ever be associated to a browser at any one time. So will this seamlessly work for you? Well it all depends on how well the Java app has been coded. A larger majority of Java apps now days will call/execute the relevant Java version they require. If it’s not there, it “usually” continues to execute using the default “associated” version. So before you get scared off by words such as “isolation”, you need to test this first. If it will always use the default associated Java version, then you need to isolate it, just like Kevin and Greg suggested. So my point is, you can only test and see how it works, and then take action from there, or ask the list for further advice. As always, an application is only as intelligent as the developers that wrote it!

Cheers,

Jeremy.

The real question is what the JVM's are bound to. If all of them are needed in the IE browser then you have to look at an isolation or virtualization solution. I had success doing this with Thinstall back in the day, but I'm sure any of the major players can handle the job. Has anyone done it with Citrix App Isolation? Conversely, if they aren't tied to the browser, and the applications that use it can manage their own instances of the JVM, then you can run several versions without problems. For example, the old Citrix Presentation Server Management Console had its own JVM.

I got two different versions of the jvm to work as streamed apps once. It was a real bitch to get going but it worked.

You could silo it on a different server. Sound like a good place for a VM

The only time I recall seeing that problem was when the client was installed on a workstation profile that did not have admin rights.  We'd have the user get their LAN Admin on the phone, login as themselves, run the install and voila.

I think I posted on this before, but I have a client who still cannot launch the ICA files.
I have taken the following steps to no avail
He is running XP SP2 and IE6

1) Un-installed web client and re-installed with Full PN client (version 11)
2) Cleared Temp files in IE.
3) Unchecked "Do not save encrypted files to disk
4) Cleared the HLKM/software/Microsoft/MSLicensing/Store?license00x keys
5) Run wfica32.exe /setup
6) Removed Google and Yahoo Toolbars.
7) Double checked file associations.

I have tried right-clicking and saving the ICA file, then launching it manually.  Still no luck
I think next I will try an exorcism.

[THIN] Re: AW: Re: ICA won't launch

Make note of the permissions on the MSLicensing key and below then Try resetting the permissions giving Full control to everyone.   If it doesn't work set the permissions back again.

I will if possible, they arent "our" PCs so my reach and influence over them is limited to what the user knows how to do and has access to do

Try with the actual Administrator account, that will rule out the profile.

Will have to see if I can have that done.

Try creating a new local windows user with admin rights and use this to launch the connection. I have had a similar problem and we could only fix it by creating new user profiles.

Hope this helps…

Checked Windows firewall, the citrix software has an exemption in to allow it, Also, tried turning firewall off and was still unable to  connect.

We get a similar situation when the local workstation firewall is configured wrong.  It looks like nothing is happening, however, the firewall log on the PC shows it being denied.

I will have to try removing the Hardware key,
I did install full PN, no help.
I have right-clicked, saved the ICA file and tried to launch manually, again no go.

Can you download files from a browser or do you have a policy set that restricts that?  From the web client try right clicking on the application and saving the launch.ica file and running that.

No error messages that I can see.  It just doesn't launch.  As far as I can tell it doesn't even attempt to start a connection.  From looking at task manager and I did try FILEMON, i couldn't find any evidence it even tried to launch the Wfica process.  Admittedly I am only able to access it through a "RescueMe" session.

What is the error message?  Can you access through the PN client instead of using an ICA file?  Is the client coming in through a firewall?

Subject: [THIN] ICA won't launch

Been a while since I posted for staff (and I'm not a hiring manager anymore) but here goes

We may have an opening within a few months for an experienced windows server admin. Knowledge of w2k3 & AD is essential, vmware esx, sql, exchange 2003, citrix, RedHat & HP SAN experience is quite desirable. Prior experience on a DOD site and prior/existing security clearance is a plus.

Must be able to receive a favorable SSBI, so sorry - only US citizens need to inquire.

Work site is located in the Marshall Islands. 85F year-round, income is exempt from Federal income tax, housing/utilities are provided, privately owned cars aren't allowed (big money saver). Full insurance, 401k, annual vacation bonus. World-class diving and deep-sea fishing opportunities, small town environment. We now have Burger King andl Subway!!!! Woo-hoo!

Anyway, it's not definite but it's very likely going to happen. For the right candidate it's possible that this could be an accompanied position - i.e., you can bring your family (great place to raise kids, private school paid for by employer, very safe community). If you're single it's automatically an unaccompanied position and your meals are free too.

Salary is pretty comparable to the states - figure out what you spend on taxes, cars, housing and utilities and you'll see that it's not a bad deal at all.

Interested, send me your resume and I'll get it in the manager's hands.

thanks

[THIN] Re: Xerox WorkCentre 56xx and 52xx

I tried the native driver on NT4, and it was a crashfest.  Probably not relevant to you!

We are using these under PS4 / 2003 using the UPD and it works well.

Anyone got any experience with them under Citrix? Using the native driver? Using the UPD?

You could also always try forcing a mapping to the good ole HP LaserJet 4.
I find it will work many times when the UPD wont
