Persuade MS to index at the Exchange end, where it should happen?

 Hi All,

Thanks for your tips – i’ve installed Lookout on a Citrix 4.5 box for testing and it is working fairly good, but performance takes a huge hit when the index is running.

Does anyone have any tips / best practices?

To report on my links below. I installed Lookout 1.3.0 with Outlook closed.  I then copied in the modified lookout.dll and Inventures_Olk.dll into the install directory and overwrote the originals. I opened up Outlook and the Lookout wizard opened.  Lookout is currently indexing right now.. There were various blog replies about people having issues on XP and Vista, but not others, but all looks well for me thus far.

It founds my PST’s and additional mailboxes. I am using Outlook 2007 SP1 on XP SP3.  I don’t have any extra Add-ins installed into Outlook except for whatever McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i installed.

if this works as advertised (won’t know 100% until indexing is done), I will be a very happy person, and will say bye-bye to WDS!

In my searching, I just found the following article on getting Lookout to work in Outlook 2007

http://www.belshe.com/2007/12/06/how-to-install-lookout-on-outlook-2007/

And looking into the November 2008 replies, the following updated method:

There’s various other links, methods, patches, etc., but people seem to be pretty  gungho on keeping Lookout search working in Outlook 2007.  I think I’m going to uninstall WDS and go back to Lookout using these methods.

Great Feedback Evan.

I actually used Copernic Desktop Search for outlook, but their recent upgrade has actually regressed some functionality and it's actually not even tolerable at this point.

where can i get lookout ? as i'm currently running outlook 2k3.

I've heard that one needs to be wary of the desktop search engines when it comes to outlook connecting to an Exchange box as it could possible lead to unnecessary overhead on the server side..

Verdict?  Not as good as Lookout.  Nowhere near as fast to pull up search results, WAY more intensive overhead on the system.  That being said, it's VASTLY superior to using the built in Outlook 2007 search without WDS.

I haven't looked into any other options.   I believe the MSN toolbar has integrated search capabilities that are supposed to work with Outlook, but I have always assumed it would be exactly the same as if you had WDS installed.  Maybe not?    I'm disappointed that MS screwed the pooch on integrating Lookout search technology in the way they did.  They should have simply integrated Lookout into Outlook 2007 and not required WDS.

Hello List,

What solutions do you use for Outlook 2007 Instant Search? Have any of you tried installed WDS (Windows Desktop Search) ?

System is Citrix Presentation Server 4.5, Office 2007 sp1.

We are having a torrid time getting anything working – turns out our users like to search lots!

[THIN] OT: Altiris console is screwey

for some reason my altiris console doesn't show my jobs, nor the samples jobs - nothing. no folders either that they use to reside in. I'm hoping there's a quick easy way to bring these back - I don't want to have to re-add them, partly because right now I can't anyway.

Any ideas at all?

thanks!

[THIN] Re: thinprint for 64bit Citrix to 32bit PrintServer

In that case… It’s been a long time, but the Printer Server Engine with $5k and the TS .print engine was $1400 for each server.

Lack of x64 drivers has been a major hurdle in moving towards 64-bit (that and application compatibility).  Many organization are sticking with 32-bit for now.  Server 2008 may be a different story as most vendors will have both x86 and x64 drivers as they will be required to if they want to support 2008.

Why not just use the UPD included with Citrix?  For most organizations it works great.  Very, very few cases where a third-party solution is required.

We are upgrading a Citrix farm to 64bit and was looking at this as a possible solution to the print problems we would get with 64bit drivers (or lack of them).

We are not going to be using thinprint for client printing... just for network printing.

I’ve been told we need to buy .print engine for all CTX servers and the .print client would be installed on the print server.

Does this sound right?  Anyone give me a rough idea of cost for this per Citrix Server (approx 60) or per user?

Thanks,
Ant.

[THIN] thinprint for 64bit Citrix to 32bit PrintServer

We are upgrading a Citrix farm to 64bit and was looking at this as a possible solution to the print problems we would get with 64bit drivers (or lack of them).

We are not going to be using thinprint for client printing... just for network printing.

I’ve been told we need to buy .print engine for all CTX servers and the .print client would be installed on the print server.

Does this sound right?  Anyone give me a rough idea of cost for this per Citrix Server (approx 60) or per user?

Thanks,
Ant.

[THIN] Re: Open file warning box

Hi Jeremy,

I tried this and I couldnt get it to work, possibly conflitc with other policies.

I have since tried configuring an Internet Explorer, and the setting the security through the loopback policies, Internet Explorer maintenance and importing the security from the congiured IE.

It appears to be working so far for the 1st users tried.

Hopefully that's it fixed.

Thanks

Graeme

Subject: [THIN] Open file warning box

Hi,

I  am starting to pull my hair out with this.

I have used GPO loopback to enable roaming profiles and folder redirection on our TS 2003 farm.

This is all working well, apart from any icon on the start menu when clicked by a user opens up the file open from the internet security box. "Do you want to open this file? filename.lnk"

IE7 enhanced security is disabled, I have set intranet zone to managed by administrator and set up our fileservers, DFS server etc as intranet sites, I have tried setting in policy to set intranet to be all sites no tlisted in other zones, and to be all unc paths, and the template to be low in bothe the computer and user areas of the GPO for the terminal servers.

GPO modeling shows this is being applied, and then logged in as admin every things ok. login as a user and the prompts appear.

Any one got any other suggestions how to disable this completely.?

Thanks

Graeme

you want audio on but the "Default Sound Scheme" set to no sounds.  you can whack he registry to get there.  it's control and then .default something or other.

I forget the exact key but use regshot while you change it and you'll see where it sn.

[THIN] Re: Open file warning box

Hi Graeme,

Every time I’ve come across this, it’s resolved by adding the server to the Local Intranet site. How about setting it at a machine level, and then you can work backwards and debug it at a user level?

--------------------------------------

SET IEZoneMap=FileServer01

SET KEY=HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap

REG ADD "%KEY%" /V UNCAsIntranet /T REG_DWORD /D 1 /F

REG ADD "%KEY%\Domains\%IEZoneMap%" /V file /T REG_DWORD /D 2 /F

-------------------------------------

Cheers,

Jeremy.

Thanks

Graeme

[THIN] Auto login issue in Vista

Hi,

I have a strange one I have the autologon set in the appsrv.ini file,

When the user autologs onto Vista on a wired connection then launched their Published app all works fine, but when I remove the wire and use the
wireless to autologin to Vista and launch the published app it asks me for a logon.

Is the username and password stored differently if the user is logged in wirelessly.

[THIN] Re: GP to stop Windows Sounds

Perhaps this will help:

http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/78412/jsi-tip-6827-how-can-i-configure-my-clients-default-sound-scheme-to-no-sounds.html

The article refers to a reg change that can be made during login (but it does state that it would take a login / logoff / login to take effect), it wouldn't be too tough to make your own ADM out of it (custom setting to be applied via group policy)

http://www.msterminalservices.org/articles/Group-Policy-Support-Custom-Applications-Environment.html  (note the section in this article where he discusses the use of "reg2adm" to do all the hard work in creating the ADM file).
